European Union fines Google and Apple

The European Union has the world's top standards for data privacy. But it is far from perfect or complete. It is also not necessarily proactive. Companies will misuse your data but sometimes they will have to pay a price and they will be exposed to the public for their misdeeds. Recently such was the case for two of the world's largest tech giants, Google and Apple.

Ten million euros each (aprox.) was the cost of the fines levied against both Google & Apple, for the lack of transparency about how they use your data. That is, if you're European. How much protection do the rest of us have?
